Ortiz Retires Shamrock with First Round TKO

10/10/2006

By Thomas Gerbasi
HOLLYWOOD, FL, October 10 – got another minute and five seconds in his third bout with Tito Ortiz, but this time the controversy of their second bout in July was non-existent, as Ortiz once again proved his dominance against the UFC Hall of Famer by knocking him out at 2:23 of the first round at the Seminole Hard Rock Live Arena in what ultimately became the swan song for ‘The World’s Most Dangerous Man’.

“Congratulations to Tito Ortiz,” said a gracious Shamrock. “I wish him and all the people in the UFC the best. Thanks for all the wonderful years.”

And though the 42-year-old Shamrock’s career earned him a spot in the organization’s Hall of Fame, the veteran of the first UFC back in 1993 was never a match for Ortiz, who defeated him via a third round TKO in 2002, and repeated the feat in July in a bout rife with controversy due to a one minute and 18 second stoppage that was deemed too quick by fans and some fight insiders.

Thus fight number three, but again, it was Ortiz who dominated.

Almost immediately, Ortiz drove Shamrock into the fence and tried to impose his will on the 42-year-old. Seconds later, Ortiz secured a takedown and started to open up with forearms in an almost carbon copy of their second bout. And after Ortiz found some space to throw blows with both hands without any response the result was the same as well, and referee John McCarthy was forced to call a stop to the bout at 2:23

And though the bad blood between the two over the years was real, it was nice to see the two embrace in the Octagon after the bout and bury the hatchet in a great sign of class by both fighters.

Shamrock retires with a pro mixed martial arts record of 26-12-2. Ortiz, who improved to 16-4, will next face Chuck Liddell in December in a quest to regain his UFC light heavyweight crown.

It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health:

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION:

Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

(Hala sige, pa-ingles-ingles pa mo diha! Hehehehehe!)
I never quite figured out why the sexual urge of men and women differ so much. And I never have figured out the whole Venus and Mars thing. I have never figured out why men think with their head and women with their heart.

FOR EXAMPLE:

One evening last week, my wife and I were getting into bed. Well, the passion starts to heat up, and she eventually says "I don't feel like it, I just want you to hold me."

I said "WHAT??!! What was that?!"

So she says the words that every husband on the planet dreads to hear... "You're just not in touch with my emotional needs as a woman enough for me to satisfy your physical needs as a man." She responded to my puzzled look by saying, "Can't you just love me for who I am and not what I do for you in the bedroom?"

Realizing that nothing was going to happen that night, I went to sleep.

The very next day I opted to take the day off of work to spend time with her. We went out to a nice lunch and then went shopping at a big, big unnamed department store.

I walked around with her while she tried on several different very expensive outfits. She couldn't decide which one to take so I told her we'd just buy them all.

She wanted new shoes to compliment her new clothes, so I said let's get a pair for each outfit. We went onto the jewelry department where she picked out a pair of diamond earrings.

Let me tell you... she was soooo excited. She must have thought I was one wave short of a shipwreck. I started to think she was testing me because she asked for a tennis bracelet when she doesn't even know how to play tennis. I think I threw her for a loop when I said, "That's fine, honey."

She was almost nearing sexual satisfaction from all of the excitement. Smiling with excited anticipation she finally said, "I think this is all dear, let's go to the cashier."

I could hardly contain myself when I blurted out, "No honey, I don't feel like it." Her face just went completely blank as her jaw dropped with a baffled "WHAT?"

I then said "honey! I just want you to HOLD this stuff for a while. You're just not in touch with my financial needs as a man enough for me to satisfy your shopping needs as a woman."

And just when she had this look like she was going to kill me, I added, "Why can't you just love me for who I am and not for the things I buy you?"

Apparently I'm not having sex tonight either.

all about marriage... and whatever!

There was a man who said, "I never knew what happiness was until I got married...and then it was too late!"

Marriage is an institution in which a man loses his Bachelor's Degree and the woman gets her Masters.

It's not true that married men live longer than single men. It only seems longer.

Getting married is very much like going to the restaurant with friends. You order what you want, and when you see what the other fellow has, you wish you had ordered that.

Losing a wife can be hard. In some cases, it's almost impossible.

He who knows nothing, knows nothing. But he who knows he knows nothing knows something. And he who knows someone whose friend's wife's brother knows nothing, he knows something. Or something like that.

How many men does it take to open a beer?

None.

It should be opened by the time she brings it to the couch.

Son: How much does it cost to get married, Dad?
Father: I don't know son, I'm still paying for it.

Wife: You always carry my photo in your handbag to the office. Why?
Hubby: When there is a problem, no matter how impossible, I look at your picture and the problems disappear.
Wife: You see how miraculous and powerful I am for you??
Hubby: Yes, I see your picture and say to myself, "What other problem can there be greater than this one?"

Ten Husbands, Still, "Like a Virgin"

A lawyer married a woman who had previously divorced ten husbands. On their wedding night, she told her new husband, "Please be gentle, I'm still a virgin."

"What?" said the puzzled groom. "How can that be if you've been married ten times?"

"Well,

Husband #1 was a sales representative; he kept telling me how great it was going to be.

Husband #2 was in software services; he was never really sure how it was supposed to function, but he said he'd look into it and get back to me.

Husband #3 was from field services; he said everything checked out diagnostically but he just couldn't get the system up.

Husband #4 was in telemarketing; even though he knew he had the order, he didn't know when he would be able to deliver.

Husband #5 was an engineer; he understood the basic process but wanted three years to research, implement, and design a new state-of-the-art method.

Husband #6 was from finance and administration; he thought he knew how, but he wasn't sure whether it was his job or not.

Husband #7 was in marketing; although he had a nice product, he was never sure how to position it.

Husband #8 was a psychologist; all he ever did was talk about it.

Husband #9 was a gynecologist; all he did was look at it.

Husband #10 was a stamp collector; all he ever did was... God! I miss him!

But now that I've married you, I'm really excited!"

"Good," said the new husband, "but, why?"

"You're a lawyer. This time I know I'm gonna get screwed!"

The Lord and the Biker

A biker was riding along a California beach when suddenly the sky clouded above his head and, in a booming voice, the Lord said, "Because you have tried to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish."

The biker pulled over and said, "Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can ride over anytime I want."

The Lord said, "Your request is materialistic, think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking. The supports required to reach the bottom of the Pacific! The concrete and steel it would take! It will nearly exhaust several natural resources. I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things.

Take a little more time and think of something that would honor and glorify me."

The biker thought about it for a long time. Finally he said, "Lord, I wish that I could understand my wife. I want to know how she feels inside, what she's thinking when she gives me the silent treatment, why she cries, what she means when she says nothing's wrong, and how I can make a woman truly happy."

The Lord replied,

"Do you want two lanes or four on that bridge?"

whatever things

been experimenting with colors... it's been pretty easy. except for a few snag, i got what i wanted look(s) for this blog. html's not that hard to understand but you gotta have time...a lot of it... to read, experiment and apply. now, if only i have all the time in the world for this....

well, what i did was, took a few links out and move a few somewhere. remove some eyesores and "tried" to keep it simple.

what i noticed about those blogs up there isn't really much of the "fashion" but the simplicity. of course, there's the content. some, though, has it all... nice graphics, images, movies, music and pretty much sensible in every way. you can feel the zest for life...

so, what is my point? damn, i don't know.... i wish, to be exact.

my friend earl went to our house last sunday and as usual, we had our "videoke sessions." even though our voices (especially mine) would crack even at the slightest increase of the music's pitch, we went ahead anyway, shamelessly.

we sang songs from the 70's to the most recent. when we reach a certain part of the song, we pass the mike to each other in between... we needed a breather... whew! i have to work on my breathing techniques.... wonder how the heck sarah and regine reach those super high notes without losing breath, man??

we capped the night messing around my pc and chat over yahoo messenger 'til we drop.

meanwhile, went to the surplus/repair shop yesterday to check on our mini-van. it's been there since last week for a much needed repair and paint. watching all those vehicles being put together and those that just got painted. wow! they're not even brand new but my eyes were drolling especially at the sight of one subaru mini car. it has the same engine configuration from the one we have but it looks really nice and cute. the car was sold already... some lucky a--hole got it first. a lot of nice vehicles were there and they ain't that pricey. someday, i'm gonna go back there and get me one of those little nice car they have.

anyway, the van should check out fine today and wifey would have a field day driving it around and showing it off..... she does that all the time.... hate it!

nuf said, adios!

The way the World Divided.

i don't think i wanna write anything today.... it's time consuming.

nothing's coming out of my brain anyway. must have been due to my alcohol and nicotine withrawal days, huh?

the only time i get to think about posting anything sensible is when i'm driving; be it on a two-wheeled or a cage. of course, the best time i wanna mess around here is when my bloodstream overflows with alcohol more than my leukocytes. other than that, it would be any other day like today. boring.

anyway, just "migrated" this blog to beta blogger. it's almost the same but with a few refinement (haven't tinker with the whole thing just yet). i think this one's a lot better. try it!

so we've met again. i mean, that girl i told you before, we've met again. well, she never ceases to amaze me (us actually). at 23, ladies and gentlemen, the lady is a pimp. that's right, your vision was correct when you read, "pimp." so, i was right all along about my impression on her. get this, her "units" are coed's. yeah, that's right... college girls still wearing their uniforms when they're about to be pick-up. and, the cost of goods er, service -- whatever, you ask? between 2 to 5k. no wonder she likes hanging-out in those high-end bars.... to sell her "wares."

lately, there's not much action going on in my daily routine. actually, there is but ain't worth mentioning here at all. my routine has been work-home-work. to be honest, i like it this way. after all the times we've spent before in you know where, i really could use a breather.... from alcohol and nicotine, that is. i've been reading a few stuff, learning new skills and spending more time with the family... very ideal set-up, isn't it? let's just say i like it this way at the moment and i wouldn't exchange it for anything in the world... (ow c'mon... too cheesy!)

my best friend, earl, texted me the other day. his work application abroad finally, after nth times of trying, had been given the green light. i'm excited for him but at the same time, sad. see, no matter how many friends i may have today, this guy, without a doubt, is the best of 'em all. simply put, nothing compares to this guy.

we've been through thick and thin since the time when underwear was passé.... i hope he makes it BIG out there and come home filthy rich.

A timeless lesson on how consultants can make a difference for an organization:

Last week, we took some friends out to a new restaurant, and noticed that the waiter who took our order carried a spoon in his shirt pocket. It seemed a little strange.

When the busboy brought our water and utensils, I noticed he also had a spoon in his shirt pocket. Then I looked around and saw that all the staff had spoons in their pockets. When the waiter came back to serve our soup I asked, "Why the spoon?"

"Well," he explained, "the restaurant's owners hired Andersen Consulting to revamp all our processes. After several months of analysis, they concluded that the spoon was the most frequently dropped utensil. It represents a drop frequency of approximately 3 spoons per table per hour. If our personnel are better prepared, we can reduce the number of trips back to the kitchen and save 15 man-hours per shift."

As luck would have it, I dropped my spoon and he was able to replace it with his spare. "I'll get another spoon next time I go to the kitchen instead of making an extra trip to get it right now." I was impressed.

Then I noticed that there was a string hanging out of the waiter's fly. Looking around, I noticed that all the waiters had the same string hanging from their flies. So before he walked off, I asked the waiter, "Excuse me, but can you tell me why you have that string right there?"

"Oh, certainly!" Then he lowered his voice. "Not everyone is so observant. That consulting firm I mentioned also found out that we can save time in the restroom. By tying this string to the tip of you know what, we can pull it out without touching it and eliminate the need to wash our hands, shortening the time spent in the restroom by 76.39 percent.

I asked "After you get it out, how do you put it back?" "Well," he whispered, "I don't know about the others, but I use the spoon."

ANGER MANAGEMENT

When you occasionally have a really bad day, and you just need to take it out on someone, don't take it out on someone you know, take it out on someone you don't know.

I was sitting at my desk when I remembered a phone call I'd forgotten to make. I found the number and dialed it. A man answered, saying "Hello." I politely said, "This is Chris. Could I please speak with Robin Carter?" Suddenly the phone was slammed down on me.

I couldn't believe that anyone could be so rude. I tracked down Robin's correct number and called her. I had transposed the last two digits of her phone number.

After hanging up with her, I decided to call the 'wrong' number again. When the same guy answered the phone, I yelled, "You're an asshole!" and hung up. I wrote his number down with the word 'asshole' next to it, and put it in my desk drawer.

Every couple of weeks, when I was paying bills or had a really bad day, I'd call him up and yell, "You're an asshole!" It always cheered me up.

When Caller ID came to our area, I thought my therapeutic 'asshole' calling would have to stop. So, I called his number and said, "Hi, this is John Smith from the telephone company. I'm calling to see if you're familiar with our Caller ID Program?" He yelled "NO!" and slammed down the phone. I quickly called him back and said, "That's because you're an asshole!"

One day I was at the store, getting ready to pull into a parking spot. Some guy in a black BMW cut me off and pulled into the spot I had patiently waited for. I hit the horn and yelled that I'd been waiting for that spot. The idiot ignored me.

I noticed a "For Sale" sign in his car window, so I wrote down his number. A couple of days later, right after calling the first asshole (I had his number on speed dial,) I thought that I'd better call the BMW asshole, too.

I said, "Is this the man with the black BMW for sale?" "Yes, It is." "Can you tell me where I can see it?" "Yes, I live at 1802 West 34th Street. It's a yellow house, and the car's parked right out in front." "What's your name?" I asked. "My name is Don Hansen," he said. "When's a good time to catch you, Don?" "I'm home every evening after five." "Listen, Don, can I tell you something?" "Yes?" "Don, you're an asshole." Then I hung up, and added his number to my Speed dial, too.

Now, when I had a problem, I had two assholes to call.

Then I came up with an idea....

I called Asshole #1. "Hello." "You're an asshole!" (But I didn't hang up.) "Are you still there?" he asked. "Yeah," I said. "Stop calling me," he screamed. "Make me," I said. "Who are you?" he asked. "My name is Don Hansen." "Yeah? Where do you live?" "Asshole, I live at 1802 West 34th Street, a yellow house, with my Black Beamer parked in front." He said, "I'm coming over right now, Don. And you had better start saying your prayers." I said, "Yeah, like I'm really scared, asshole."

Then I called Asshole #2. Hello?" he said. "Hello, asshole," I said. He yelled, "If I ever find out who you are..." "You'll what?" I said. "I'll kick your ass," he exclaimed. I answered, "Well, asshole, here's your chance. I'm coming over right now." Then I hung up and immediately called the police, saying that I lived at 1802 West 34th Street, and that I was on my way over there to kill my gay lover. Then I called Channel 13 News about the gang war going down on West 34thStreet.

I quickly got into my car and headed over to 34th street. There I saw two assholes beating the crap out of each other in front of six squad cars, a police helicopter and a news crew.

NOW I feel much better. You know, this anger management stuff really works...........................................
